July 2026: Storytime BlogHop – again
This BlogHop story is from me for you. I’m still endorsing Holly Lisle’s writing courses again (hint: there is a free course to get to know her teaching style). I’ve also hosted a story-poem by Ruth Sard and there’s a list of stories by other students of Holly’s courses.
This time I didn’t write a story, I wrote something that can be interpreted as a freeform poem (although it’s not poetic in the slightest). However, it’s deeply political and reflects some of my biggest worries at the moment. Also, it’s applicable to ALL countries with a democracy (like Germany, USA, France, and many more), so don’t feel offended if you discover your country in my words. I do find my own country there too, that’s why I wrote this poem. I am deeply scared and worried, especially with regards to my grandson, and sometimes fiction just doesn’t cut it. So here’s my fear put into words:
Aren’t You Afraid
You’re saying:
Women are not worthy of independence.
They should care for house, husband, and children alone.
Are you afraid they might no longer tolerate your misogynistic ways?
You’re saying:
Poor people are fraudsters and parasites
and that they destroy the economy.
Are you afraid because they exist
or because you don’t want to see the real fraudsters and parasites?
You’re saying:
Migrants are violent filth, drug addicts, and dealers.
They need to go.
Are you afraid of migrants although most are law abiding taxpayers?
You’re saying:
We need our guns without restrictions.
Everyone, even the deranged, have the right to as many guns as they like.
Aren’t you afraid of seeing yet more children and teachers die?
You’re saying.
All politicians are liers,
funded by billionaires and dangerous.
And many of them are, it’s a point to discuss
(hint: words are powerful! As is the law if you use it.)
That’s why you’re voting for Nazis (under a different name).
Aren’t you afraid?
Ruthlessly, carefully,
and overnight
the Nazis destroy
the trust and tolerance we’ve created in the previous century,
the growth we’ve accomplished in that time,
the unity of our nation (because they cannot win against united people).
Aren’t you afraid of them?
Don’t you see the money flowing into their wide open pockets?
Aren’t you angry that they laugh at you, calling you dumb or stupid?
Aren’t you enraged that they take without giving back?
And what’s more: aren’t you going to say something
when you see this behavior repeated all over the world?
If you’re not opposing them, doesn’t that mean you’re a Nazi collaborator?
Aren’t you afraid?
